An author visits Heckenberg Public School
Jenny Conway is a local author and illustrator who attended Heckenberg Public School, graduating as School Captain in 1975.
Once completing high school Jenny pursued a career as a trained nurse. Throughout her years of nursing Jenny treated many young children with health and dietary issues. This and the realisation that her nephew "lived on chips" inspired her to write and illustrate a book titled "Why we love our vegies".
Recently, Heckenberg Public School students had the privilege of Jenny sharing her newly published book. During her visit to the school she read her story and shared some of her intentions as an author, particularly the role of her amazing illustrations.
As a final gesture Jenny signed, dedicated and presented a copy of her book to the principal of Heckenberg Public School, Kathy Powzun.
The students, staff and Jenny eagerly await her return as she would like to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of how books are utilised in the classroom as a teaching tool to engage students.
